Crops

From Geomastery

Crops are plant blocks which grow over time, can be cultivated by the player, and harvested to obtain food or other items. There are several different types of crop which grow in different ways, and individual crops each have their own specific conditions.

Crops; including peppers, rice, pumpkins, and cotton

Farmland crops[edit]

These crops are planted by right-clicking with the seed item on a block of farmland. Farmland is created by breaking a dirt or grass block using a hoe.

For a crop to grow, the following conditions must be met:

  • The block is directly exposed to the sky
  • The block below is dirt, grass, farmland, or the same crop
  • The block is in a valid biome (different for each crop)

If these conditions are not met, the crop will die after a random time.

Single-block crops[edit]

These crops consist of a single block which grows through stages over time. When fully grown, the block can be broken (by hand, or more quickly using a sickle) to obtain the crop items. If the block is broken before fully grown, it will drop one of the seed item needed to plant it.

Crop Yield Valid biomes
Beetroot
  • 2-4 beetroot
Taiga, Hills, Stone Beach, Forest, River, Plains
Carrot
  • 2-4 carrots
Taiga, Hills, Stone Beach, Forest, River, Plains
Chickpeas
  • 3 chickpeas
Beach, Plains, Swamp, Mushroom Island, Jungle, Savannah
Cotton
  • 1 cotton
  • 2 cotton cuttings
Plains, Beach, Jungle
Hemp
  • 1 hemp twine
  • 2 hemp cuttings
River, Ocean, Forest, Plains, Jungle, Savannah
Pepper
  • 4 peppers
Ocean, River, Beach, Forest, Plains, Jungle
Potato
  • 2-4 potatoes
Taiga, Hills, Stone Beach, Forest, River, Plains
Wheat
  • 2 wheat
Taiga (except Cold Taiga), Forest, Plains, Beach

Vertical harvestable crops[edit]

These crops consist of a plant which can grow vertically into new blocks up to a certain limit. Each block grows fruit over time, which can be harvested by right-clicking and will then regrow. If the crop block is broken when fully grown, it will drop the same items; if broken before fully grown, it will drop one seed item.

Crop Yield Valid biomes
Tomato 1 tomato Forest, River, Plains, Beach, Jungle
Berry 8 berries Forest, River, Ocean, Plains, Jungle, Savannah
Bean 3 beans Forest, River, Plains, Beach, Jungle

Block fruit crops[edit]

These crops consist of a stem plant which grows over time. When fully grown, it will produce a fruit in an adjacent block. Harvesting the fruit will drop a fruit item and a seed item. Breaking the stem drops one seed item.

Crop Valid biomes
Pumpkin Taiga, Hills, Beach, Forest, Plains, River, Jungle
Example Plains, Beach, Jungle, Savannah

Rice[edit]

Rice is a special crop which consists of two vertical blocks. The bottom block is in water, and the top block extends out. Rice is planted by right-clicking with the rice item on a block of dirt or grass which is submerged under one block of still water.

When either block is broken (by hand, or more quickly using a sickle), both blocks are destroyed. One rice is dropped before fully grown, two rice when fully grown.

For rice to grow, it must be in a valid biome: Plains, Beach, Swamp, Mushroom Island, or Jungle.

Fruit trees[edit]

Fruit trees have leaves which grow fruit. The fruit can be harvested by right-clicking the leaf block, which will then grow more fruit over time. Breaking leaf blocks may produce seedlings, which can be planted like vanilla saplings to grow new trees.

Tree type Valid biomes
Apple Forest, River, Plains, Beach
Banana Swamp, Mushroom Island, Jungle
Orange Jungle, Savannah, Desert, Mesa
Pear Forest, Ocean, Plains, River, Jungle, Savannah

Sugarcane[edit]

Sugarcane is planted, grown, and harvested in the same way as in vanilla.

Bee hives[edit]

Beehives generate attached to the trunks of trees. On both breaking and right-click they drop honey and beeswax, but only if they have developed fully, which has no outward sign. We plan to add domestic beehives later.
