This is a step-by-step guide to getting ready to play Geomastery, for anyone who might not have used Forge before.

1. Prepare[edit]

  • You should already have the Minecraft launcher installed.
  • From the Minecraft launcher, run version 1.11.2.
  • Once it loads to the main menu, quit it again. (This is needed to make sure you have all the Minecraft files on your computer)

2. Install Forge[edit]

  • Go to this page.
  • What operating system are you using?
    • Windows. Under "Download recommended", click the big "Windows Installer" button on the left - highlighted in the picture below.
      • Forge download windows.png
    • Anything other than Windows. Under "Download recommended", click the smaller "Installer" button on the top right - highlighted in the picture below.
      • Forge download other.png
  • You will be taken to a page with some adverts at the bottom (or a big empty space if you are using adblock). After a few seconds, a "Skip" button will appear at the top right - click on this.
  • Your browser will download a file named "forge-" followed by some numbers. If your browser asks or blocks the file, click "Keep" or "Allow" if needed.
  • Open this file.
  • A small window will open. There should be a radio button with "Install Client" selected - click on it if it's not selected. There should also be a checkbox called "Mercurius" which is already selected - you don't need this to play the mod but it's not harmful. Click "OK" in this window, pictured below.

  • Some progress bars will appear, and eventually a message saying "Complete" - you have installed Forge!
  • Open the Minecraft launcher again and go to the launch options where you choose the version. Look through the list and choose the one with "forge" in the name, then run it.
  • When it gets to the main menu, you should see "Powered by Forge" in the bottom left corner. Now quit it again (This is needed to make sure you have all the Forge files on your computer).

3. Install Geomastery[edit]

  • Go to this page.
  • Click the small downwards arrow to the right of the topmost "Geomastery-1.11.2-" text, pictured below. (The "1.0.0" part will be different for newer version of the mod. As long as the "1.11.2" part is the same it's okay)
    • Geomastery download.png
  • Your browser will download a file with that name. If your browser asks or blocks the file, click "Keep" or "Allow" if needed.
  • Copy this file.
  • Make sure your file explorer has hidden files visible.
  • What operating system are you using?
    • Windows. Go to the folder C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft.
    • Mac. Go to the folder /Users/[YourName]/Library/Application Support/minecraft.
    • For other operating systems, you might need to search online for where to find the minecraft folder.
  • Inside this folder, open the folder called mods. It will be empty.
  • Paste the file you copied earlier into the mods folder.
  • You have installed Geomastery!
  • Open the Minecraft launcher again and run the forge version you ran earlier.
  • At the main menu, click the "Mods" button. On the next page, scroll through the list on the left and you should see Geomastery, as pictured below.
